HART — A 65-year-old Grand Rapids man pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to first-degree home invasion, unlawful driving away of an automobile (car theft) and second-offense habitual offender in 27th Circuit Court Monday, April 18, according to Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon.

Christopher Allen Scott will undergo psychiatric testing. “He was evaluated by competent professionals and determined to be mentally ill to the extent he did not bear legal responsibility,” said Bizon. “He will be evaluated and treated in a hospital.”

It is alleged that Scott “took a car that was parked but running at a store; drove it down the street; entered a home; and proceeded to drink the beer in the home.” The incident occurred in Greenwood Township.

First-degree home invasion is punishable by up to 20 years in prison, and unlawful driving away of automobile carries a five-year maximum.
