Obituary: Miriam W. Aebig, 91, of Shelby.

Miriam W. Aebig passed away Monday, February 28 , 2022. She was born September 9, 1930 to Wilmer and Hazel (Anderson) Near in Shelby. Miriam graduated from Shelby High School in 1948.

Miriam married Gordon E. Aebig on July 31, 1949 in Shelby. She worked for Shelby District Library for many years and was instrumental in the story time program. Miriam was an avid quilter, knitter and enjoyed sewing, making many prayer shawls. She was a Red Hat Lady as well. Miriam was a two-time cancer survivor leading her to help establish the Oceana Cancer Survivors group. She was very active in the historical activities in the Shelby area.

Miriam is survived by her children, Monica (Brian) McLouth, Scott (Kay) Aebig, Brenda (Phil) Petersen; grandchildren, Matt (Kristen) McLouth, Karen McLouth, Alison (Chum) Skiera, Ben (Angie) McLouth, Adam (Amity) Aebig, Lisa (Kris) VanEngen, and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Petersen; twelve great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Miriam was preceded in death by her parents, sister Mildred (Luther) Roth, and husband Gordon.

Visitation is Thursday, March 3, 2022, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home, 267 N. Michigan Avenue, Shelby, and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Funeral services will be Friday March 4th, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the Harris Funeral Home.
