Wind gusts reaching 55 mph expected along the lakeshore.

OCEANA COUNTY — The US National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for several counties, including Oceana, that begins Friday afternoon, Feb. 18.

The advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. Friday until 10 a.m. Saturday.

Also included in the advisory are Mason, Muskegon, Lake, Osceola, Newaygo and Mecosta counties.

Snow accumulations of 2-4 inches are expected. Winds will gust as high as 50 mph in inland locations and up to 55 mph near the lakeshore.

“Plan on slippery road conditions,” states NWS. “The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute, but deteriorating road conditions will become more widespread after 7 p.m. this evening. Briefly heavy snow showers, combined with strong winds, will result in reduced visibility tonight, occasionally below one-half mile. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches and result in isolated to scattered power outages.

“Slow down and use caution while traveling.”
