HART — A 24-year-old Newaygo man was sentenced to one year in jail in 27th Circuit Court, Jan. 31, for a conviction of larceny $1,000-$20,000.

Drew Edward Beatty, of 5530 S. Croton Hardy Dr., pleaded guilty to the felony, Nov. 15, in two separate files.

Judge Robert D. Springstead gave Beatty credit for 33 days served in jail.

Sentencing guidelines in the case are seven to 23 months, said Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon.

Beatty previously testified that he and accomplice Jason Spears stole a 16-foot flatbed trailer June 23, 2020 in Hart Township and then later sold the trailer for $800.

Beatty also admitted that he and Spears stole work tools from a job work site Sept. 5, 2020 in Hart Township.

Beatty was also ordered to two years probation; restitution totaling $2,207.72; and $398 in fines and costs. In his second file, he was ordered to pay $198 in fines and costs.

The maximum term for larceny $1,000-$20,000 is five years in prison, said the judge.
