Karen Graham Pleasant

Obituary: Karen Graham Pleasant, 65, of Laketon Township.

Karen Graham Pleasant, 65, of Laketon Township, passed away January 20, 2022 at the Poppen Hospice House in Muskegon after a short illness.  She was born in Shelby on November 22, 1956 to Kenneth and Doris (Robbins) Graham.

Karen was a 1974 graduate of Montague High School.  She furthered her education at Michigan State University earning a bachelor’s degree in special education (for the visually impaired). She earned a master’s degree in early childhood education at Grand Valley State University.  Karen taught for 26 years, including 15 years at Reeths-Puffer Central Elementary with first and third graders.  She was a member of Claybanks United Methodist Church, the church where she and Robert A. Pleasant were married on September 17, 1977.

Her husband Bob survives her along with their two sons, Andrew (Dana) Pleasant of Lowell, Jeffrey Pleasant of Grand Rapids and daughter, Ashley (Will) Pleasant-Ryan of Oregon, WI; three grandchildren, Jayden Pleasant-Ryan, Emma Pleasant-Ryan and Tennyson Pleasant-Ryan; her mother, Doris Graham; and three brothers, Michael (Sally) Graham, Alan (Vicki) Graham and Terry (Michelle) Graham.  Karen was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Graham, and her in-laws Robert & Freida Pleasant.

After retiring Karen and Bob enjoyed traveling.  They explored many areas in the United States and abroad.  They were always happy to be back home enjoying the beaches and parks of Lake Michigan. She enjoyed sewing and made several beautiful quilts, often as gifts for new babies including her grandchildren. One of Karen’s joys was loving and caring for her own family.  She also enjoyed seeing and keeping in touch with old friends and her extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.

A private celebration of life is planned for a later date.  There will be no services.
