Obituary: Gary Peterson, 78, of Mears.

Gary Lambert Peterson, 78, of Mears, passed away Friday, January 21, 2022. He was born June 21, 1943, in Flint, the son of Kenneth and Elizabeth (Huntley) Peterson.

Gary proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force, and later, the Flint community as a fireman of 25 years, retiring as assistant chief. Gary enjoyed volunteer work, such as the Silver Lake Apple & BBQ Festival and various chamber of commerce functions. He also enjoyed singing in the community choir, the church choir, and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Gary is survived by his children, Tina (Dean) Wiegand and Scott (Carrie) Peterson; grandchildren, Taylor and Kaleb Wiegand; sister, Margo Mayfield; and brothers, Joel Peterson and Marc Peterson.

Gary was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Mary Ann (Hammer) Peterson; his parents, Kenneth and Elizabeth; and brother, Vern Peterson.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5631 West Stony Lake Road, New Era with the Reverend Sarah Samuelson officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Friday, January 28, 2022, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, King-Hart Chapel, 2370 North 72nd Avenue, Hart, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Mears Cemetery in the spring.
