Fire destroys garage.
By Allison Scarbrough, Editor.
FERRY TOWNSHIP — A detached garage and two vehicles parked inside of it were destroyed by fire early Tuesday morning, Jan .11.
Ferry Township, Grant Township and Shelby-Benona fire departments responded to the scene at 3620 S. 124th Avenue shortly before 6 a.m.
“It was totally engulfed when we got there,” said Ferry Township Fire Chief Brad Fritcher. A passenger car and a pickup truck parked inside the garage were destroyed.
The Oceana County Fire Investigation Team was called to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
Fritcher said he believes the approximate 30-by-40 foot garage was insured. Several tools stored inside were also destroyed.
Firefighters protected the nearby home, which was at least 20 feet away from the garage, from any damage.
Icy roads made responding to the call challenging, and the Oceana County Road Commission was called to the area to treat the pavement. “It’s just frigid out there. We had tenders pumping water to our engine.”
Life EMS was also dispatched to the scene for standby.
The name of the homeowner was not immediately available.
