Officers’ beards raise $3,780 for Crystal Valley Care Fund.

HART — The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office raised $3,780 through the “No Shave November” event and donated the money to the Crystal Valley Care Fund.

Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast challenged his deputies and officers to quit shaving through the month of November. Those in “violation” of the department’s clean shaven policy had to pay a fee of $75 for “violating” the policy.

Several officers participated, and community members also donated.

The sheriff’s office competes with surrounding agencies in an effort to raise the most money.

The sheriff’s office chose CVCF because the organization “has a special place in our hearts,” Mast said. “They’ve helped a lot of people in the community, including some of our own.”

On the last day of the challenge, officers had fun with a “Fancy Mustache Day,” as they shaved the beard off but kept a mustache and/or sideburns briefly.

CVCF, established in 1992, is a non-profit organization that helps Oceana County families in need due to a house fire or catastrophic illness.
