Hart Public Schools put on lockdown Thursday.

HART — Hart Public Schools went into lockdown Thursday, Dec. 2, following a threat that was later determined to be targeted at a school located on the other side of state, according to Superintendent Mark Platt.

“One of the analysts who work for the (Michigan) State Police was able to track down the tip,” said Platt in a written statement. “The tip was not intended for Hart Public Schools but was instead intended for a different district on the other side of the state which happened to have a middle school named Hart Middle School.

“It was a chaotic situation that was handled extremely well by law enforcement and staff.”

The superintendent posted the following message on the district’s Facebook page Thursday:

Good Evening,

Shortly after dismissal today, the district was notified of a threat that came in through a tip line associated with law enforcement. The busses had departed by the time the information arrived. Lockdown procedures were activated across the district. Law enforcement responded to the lockdown immediately and stayed on campus to assess the situation. The all-clear signal was given by law enforcement after a thorough sweep of all the buildings had been completed.

The district and law enforcement take all threats seriously and we investigate all tips given to us through tip lines. Since the Oxford situation earlier this week, law enforcement and school districts across the state have seen an increase in threats. One of the analysts who work for the state police was able to track down the tip. The tip was not intended for Hart Public Schools but was instead intended for a different district on the other side of the state which happened to have a middle school named Hart Middle School.

It was a chaotic situation that was handled extremely well by law enforcement and staff.

Sincerely,

Superintendent Mark Platt
