NEWFIELD TOWNSHIP — A two-story farmhouse at 2590 S. 186th Ave. was damaged by a fire caused by a woodstove Saturday, Nov. 20, around 2 a.m., said Hesperia Fire Chief Bob Eichenberg.

Approximately 20 firefighters from Hesperia, Ferry Township, Walkerville and Fremont fire departments responded to the scene. No one was injured.

An older couple owns the home. Few contents were inside the house, because they were not currently living there on a full-time basis, said the chief.

The house sustained smoke and fire damage. “It was woodstove-related,” said Chief Eichenberg.

One of the owners was home at the time and was awakened by the smoke.

It is presently unknown if the house is insured.
