Alcohol believed to be factor in serious crash.

PENTWATER TOWNSHIP — Alcohol is believed to be factor in a serious crash Wednesday, Oct. 27, shortly before 11 p.m. on Business Route US 31 near the Wishing Well convenience store, according to Oceana County Undersheriff Ryan Schiller.

After Mason-Oceana 911 received a report of an unknown accident, emergency personnel arrived at the scene to find an injured 32-year-old Holland man, said Undersheriff Schiller.

“The crash occurred in the curves east of the Wishing Well gas station. The driver of the Chevy SUV was traveling westbound on Business Route US 31 near North 62nd Avenue in the curves when he left the roadway crashing into trees. The driver was the only occupant of the single-vehicle crash. The fire departments had to use Jaws of Life to extricate the driver from the vehicle,” he said.

“The driver was in serious condition when transported from the scene to Mercy Health Partners (in Muskegon). AeroMed was requested from the scene, but was unable to fly due to weather. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash that is still under investigation.”

Other responding agencies were Life EMS, Pentwater Fire and Rescue, Hart Area Fire Department, Pentwater Police Department, Michigan State Police — Hart post and the Mason County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team.
