Letter to the Editor: Be a Good Samaritan and vote ‘yes’ for Pentwater School bond proposal.

To the Editor:
I had a great public school experience, and so did my children. Now that I am a senior citizen, and the Pentwater Schools are asking me for money to repair and improve the school, why should I support this when I have nothing to gain personally?
My vote is influenced by the parable of the Good Samaritan from the Gospel of Luke, which many of us learned when we were children. Jesus held him up as a good example. The Good Samaritan helped an injured enemy he encountered on a road and paid for his care at an inn.
The way I look at it, how can I justify refusing to help area school children by paying an amount I feel is reasonable and can afford? Shouldn’t I take the Good Samaritan as a model of how we should care about other people’s children?
I know your vote on November 2 is personal. But I suggest that we all remember that we are neighbors, and that we are called upon to be good to our neighbors.
Thank you,
John S. Graettinger, Jr.
