Full slate of fun on tap for Pentwater Homecoming this weekend.

PENTWATER — After having a scaled-back Homecoming celebration last summer due to COVID-19, Pentwater will offer a full slate of activities this weekend, Aug. 12-15, for the 91st annual event.

The following is the Homecoming 2021 schedule:

Thursday, Aug. 12:

  • 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Pentwater Farmers Market, Village Green.
  • 6 p.m.: Strawberry Shortcake Social, Village Green, hosted by the Pentwater Lake Association.
  • 7:30 p.m. Les Bailey Memorial Concert, Village Green. Pentwater Civic Band and The Scottville Clown Band combined.

Friday, Aug. 13:

  • 8 a.m. to noon: Sand Sculpture Contest, Charles Mears State Park. Judging at 11 a.m. This year’s theme is “Pentwater: Life is Better at the Lake.” Sponsored by the Pentwater Service Club.
  • 1 p.m.: Storytelling at Storybook Village.
  • 1 p.m.: Mason/Oceana County MSU Alumni Golf Outing, Lakeside Links Golf Club. Call 231-843-3360 for more information.
  • 8:30 p.m.: Sunset Glow Yoga, Charles Mears State Park. The cost is $15 to participate, and bring a towel and water. Hosted by Kalon Arts and Yoga Company.

Saturday, Aug. 14:

  • Noon PYC Ensign Race, Pentwater Yacht Club, weather permitting.
  • Noon to 8 p.m.: Big Ten Preseason Tailgate Party, behind the Village Café under the tent. The public is welcome. The sponsor is the Mason and Oceana MSU Alumni Association.
  • 1 p.m.: Horseshoe Tournament, Art Audrey Horseshoe Pits. Contact Dennis Veine to sign up at 231-869-4169. The sponsor is Direct Advertising Company.
  • 2 p.m.: Registration and Line up for the Grand Parade, Pentwater Public Schools. Contact the Pentwater Chamber of Commerce at 231-869-4150 for more information. Entry judging begins at 3:30 p.m.
  • 4 p.m.: Grand Parade. Grand Marshal is Claudia Ressel-Hodan. Pentwater Service Club and volunteers will collect fireworks donations.
  • Dusk: Fireworks display at Charles Mears State Park over Lake Michigan.
  • Dusk: Live music at Village Pub.

Sunday, Aug. 15:

  • 8 a.m. to noon: VFW Pancake Breakfast, Pentwater VFW Hall. 
  • Worship service: 9 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church;
  • 9 and 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church; 9:30 a.m. at Centenary United Methodist on the Village Green, and 10:30 a.m. at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church.
  • 6 p.m., Jazz at Gull Landing.
  • 7 p.m., Movies on the Green – “Mama Mia!”

Homecoming sponsors are Shelby State Bank and Gale’s Agency, and the Grand Parade Sponsor is Cosmic Candy Company.
