GOLDEN TOWNSHIP — An 8-year-old Midland, Michigan boy was injured after he was run over by a pickup truck while riding a bike at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park in Silver Lake Saturday, July 31, shortly after 5 p.m., according to an Oceana County Sheriff’s Office accident report.

The driver, who is a 43-year-old Ortonville, Michigan man, was driving the speed limit in the campground when two children crossed in front of him on bicycles, states the report. “The first child cleared the vehicle without getting struck and caught (the driver’s) attention. (He) never saw the second child on the bike and struck the child, running over the child’s legs. The child received injuries to his right leg and a laceration to the head.”

Riding in the 2021 Ford F-350 was a 13-year-old Ortonville boy. No one in the truck was injured. The injured child was transported to Mercy Health Partners in Muskegon by Life EMS.
