Free boater safety classes Aug. 5 and 6.
PENTWATER — Oceana County Sheriff’s Deputy Tim Simon, who is head of the sheriff’s office marine division, is teaching free boater safety classes Thursday and Friday, Aug. 5 and 6, at the Pentwater Yacht Club.
Deputy Simon will administer a test on the last day and issue boater safety certificates to all who pass. This allows them to operate personal watercraft, such as wave runners and jet-skis, as well as other boats.
The classes run from 8 a.m. to noon. Students must attend both days of the class. Call 231-873-6771 and leave the child’s name and date of birth or visit www.oceanasheriff.net to register. Students are encouraged to pre-register. Plenty of space is available. Refreshments will be provided.
Students aged 10 and under must be accompanied by a parent.
