HART — A 23-year-old Muskegon man was sentenced to five to 25 years in prison for a conviction for first-degree criminal sexual conduct (CSC) in 27th Circuit Court Monday, July 12.
Matthew William Gunderson, of 1660 Terrace St., raped a 5-year-old boy Dec. 29, 2020. The incident occurred in an Oceana County home where Gunderson was staying with a relative, said Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon.
Gunderson will also be subject to lifetime electronic monitoring, said 27th Circuit Court Judge Robert D. Springstead.
“This has been really hard on me and my family,” said the victim’s mother in court Monday. “After the incident, my son had nightmares for months. It’s been difficult. He broke our hearts and our trust. My son is just now getting over it.”
Gunderson received credit for 153 days served in jail. He appeared in court via Zoom video conferencing due to COVID-19 restrictions from the Oceana County Jail.
