Shelby man dies in head-on crash.

HART TOWNSHIP — A 30-year-old Shelby man died in a head-on crash on Oceana Drive near Star Hill Friday, July 9, at 6:45 a.m., according to Lt. Shane Hasty of the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was southbound in a Kia when he crossed the center line and struck a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by a 20-year-old Shelby man, said Lt. Hasty. The pickup truck driver was transported to Mercy Hospital in Muskegon by Life EMS.

Neither vehicle had passengers. 

It is not immediately known if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash. An autopsy will be performed. 

The men’s names will not be released until family is notified.

The 20-year-old was not wearing a seatbelt, but the man who died was wearing one, said Hasty.

Both Hart and Shelby fire departments assisted at the scene. Oceana Drive was closed in the vicinity of the crash for hours as police investigated the scene.
