Vietnam traveling wall arrives in Hart Wednesday.

HART — A Vietnam traveling memorial will arrive at the Oceana County Fairgrounds Wednesday, July 7, and will remain on the grounds through the weekend.

The wall is 80 percent the size of the national monument in Washington DC, which is the largest replica.

Inscribed on the black granite wall are the names of more than 58,000 men and women who gave their lives or remain missing.

The wall will leave the National Guard Armory in Montague at 3 p.m. and then head to Hart. It is scheduled to arrive in Hart between 4 and 4:30 p.m. The opening ceremony is set for 5 p.m. Wednesday. The “Through the Eyes” museum and veterans resources opens Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Vietnam veteran, the late Bill Errante, stands next to the Traveling Vietnam Wall trailer at the Oceana County Fairgrounds in Hart in 2014.

A wreath laying ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, July 8, at 12:30 p.m.

The closing ceremony for the wall’s visit is scheduled for Sunday, July 11, at 2 p.m.

The wall will travel along Oceana Drive to Karen Street; then will proceed past Hart Veterans Park; through downtown; and into the fairgrounds.

Residents can visit the wall any time during its stop. There is no charge for admission.

Booths with veterans services will be set up on the grounds.

The wall stopped in Hart for an afternoon in 2014 as it was being towed on a trailer on its way to Ludington. This year, residents will have several days to visit the wall on display. This is the first time the traveling memorial replica has been on display in Hart.

The memorial was scheduled to visit Hart last summer but was canceled due to COVID-19.
