The students had a late start to band class with the schedule starting halfway through the school year due to COVID-19. Despite this, they were able to successfully rehearse and perform for their concert, June 3, with the sixth/seventh grade choir. The students celebrated by enjoying time outside at Getty Park the day after their performance and exam.

The eighth grade students performed a piece at their eighth grade recognition ceremony, June 8. “They will start high school in the fall as freshmen, and our Shelby staff could not be more proud of them,” said Shelby Middle School Band Director Erin Ray.

Band camp for the Shelby Marching Tigers is Aug. 2-7. “The students are excited to get back to performing, and are pumped to piece back the group for a fun marching band season,” said Ray.

Five Shelby Middle School students will attend Blue Lake Fine Arts camp this summer. “They are great young musicians and will have a rewarding time making friends, furthering their musical understanding, and continuing their excellence,” said Ray.

“The 2020-2021 school year was a strange one for students and staff members, but we were able to hold on and have high hopes for the upcoming school year.”
