Trial in CSC case adjourned.
By Allison Scarbrough, Editor.
HART — The trial against a 41-year-old Walkerville man accused of first-degree criminal sexual conduct (CSC) is delayed in 27th Circuit Court due to COVID-19.
Brandon Lee Chase, of 9415 W. Grant Rd., faces a 25-year minimum prison term if convicted of the charge.
Chase is accused of sexually assaulting a girl who was under the age of 13 in Colfax Township, said Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon.
The case was set for a two-day trial next week, but it was adjourned until June 23-25 due to COVID-19 restrictions. Due to the number of COVID-19 cases in Oceana County, the court is in Phase I restrictions, which do not allow trials, said Judge Robert D. Springstead.
Chase is free on bond after posting 10 percent of $25,000.
He appeared in court Monday via Zoom video conferencing due to COVID-19.
UPDATE: The trial was adjourned again from the June 23-25 time frame, and a new date has not yet been scheduled.
