HART — A 21-year-old Grand Rapids man was sentenced to serve six months in jail in 27th Circuit Court Monday, April 19, for a conviction of assault by strangulation.
Lorenzo Emmanuel Ramirez, of 3320 Pine Meadow Dr., was initially charged with another felony of first-degree home invasion, which was dismissed.
“The defendant broke into his ex-girlfriend’s residence and used his size to hold her against a wall,” Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon.
“He understands that he has an anger issue that has caused this problem,” said his attorney Anna Rapa. Ramirez is willing to work on his anger problem through counseling and treatment.
Judge Robert D. Springstead gave Ramirez credit for four days served in jail. The judge also ordered two years probation.
Sentencing guidelines in the case are five to 23 months.
Ramirez appeared in court via Zoom video conferencing due to COVID-19.
