HESPERIA — A fire caused major damage to a home at 1551 N. Fitzgerald Ave. Friday morning, April 2, said Hesperia Area Fire Department Cpt. Jason Newman.

Hesperia firefighters were assisted by Fremont, White Cloud and Ferry Township departments, and Life EMS also responded to the scene, said Newman. 1-800-BoardUp was also called in to secure the home.

The Hesperia Area Fire Department was dispatched to the scene at 3:26 a.m.

Occupants of the home, which include three family members, were able to safely escape without injury, said Newman. The home is not a total loss but sustained “heavy damage in the rear of the house.” It appears the fire may have started in a back bedroom.

The house is insured, and the American Red Cross was called in to assist the family with temporary needs.

“Hesperia had a fast knock-down,” Newman said of the department’s swift response.

The cause of fire has not yet been determined.
