By Allison Scarbrough, Editor.
HESPERIA — Hesperia High School senior Emily Bayle broke a 50-year scoring record at Hesperia High School this season with a 1,275-point total.
Bayle’s point total surpasses the 1971 record held by Mike Clark who amassed 1,266 points. The 1971 record was set back when 3-point shots did not exist.
Bayle, a four-year varsity starter for the Panthers, played guard and forward, said Hesperia Girls Varsity Basketball Coach Vince Grodus. “She played everywhere — she was a complete player.”
Bayle averaged 18.5 points per game this season; 10.6 rebounds; three assists; and four steals, said Grodus. She scored 247 points this season, shooting 45 percent from the field.
The Panthers finished the challenging season impacted by the restraints of COVID-19 with a 7-7 record, losing two of their games to state-ranked Kent City.
“I’ve had the pleasure of coaching her for two years,” said Grodus. “She’s been an absolute monster on the court.”
