Fleeing suspect arraigned.
LUDINGTON — The 31-year-old Hart man arrested by Mason County sheriff’s deputies following a police chase that began in Mason County and ended in Oceana County has been identified.
Armando Gregorio Gutierrez, Jr., of 2880 W. Polk Road, has been arraigned in Mason County’s 79th District Court on charges of fourth-degree fleeing and eluding, resisting and opposing a police officer, operating an unregistered vehicle and driving while license suspended (DWLS) with a fourth-offense habitual offender notice. Gutierrez is lodged in the Mason County Jail on a $25,000 cash/surety bond.
Editor’s note: An earlier story posted listed Gutierrez as a Shelby resident, based on information that was provided at the time.
The incident occurred Sunday, March 28, shortly after 9 p.m.
“Mason County Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted a traffic stop in the Walmart parking lot in Pere Marquette Township for a speeding violation,” said Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole. “As the deputy walked up to the vehicle, the driver put the vehicle in drive and fled the scene.
“The suspect vehicle exited the Walmart parking lot onto Meyers Road to US 10, westbound on US 10 to Pere Marquette Highway and then southbound on Pere Marquette Highway. The suspect vehicle continued through Mason County and crossed Oceana Drive into Oceana County and onto 62nd Avenue. Shortly after entering into Oceana County, Gutierrez crashed into a ditch and fled on foot.
“The MCSO deputy chased the suspect on foot, eventually capturing him,” said Cole.
Gutierrez also has three outstanding warrants — failure to appear in Mason County, failure to appear in Oceana County and failure to pay child support in Newaygo County.
