Cocaine delivery case headed to trial.
By Allison Scarbrough, Editor.
HART — A 32-year-old Walkerville man accused of second-offense cocaine delivery is scheduled to go to trial April 7-9.
Antonio John-Renee Welcom, of 3259 166th Ave., appeared in 27th Circuit Court Monday, Feb. 22, via Zoom video conferencing due to COVID-19.
Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon offered a plea arrangement with a three-year cap on his minimum prison term and dismissal of the second-offense habitual offender status.
“We’re electing to go to trial,” said Welcom’s attorney Michael Oakes.
Monday was the last day Welcom could accept the offer, said Judge Robert D. Springstead.
It is alleged Welcom delivered 9 ounces of cocaine, said Bizon. He was arrested by the State, Sheriffs’, Chiefs’ Enforcement of Narcotics Team (SSCENT).
Sentencing guidelines in the case are 36-60 months.
A final pretrial is scheduled for March 22.
