Man sentenced to jail for drug deal involving 1,000 hits of LSD.

HART — A 29-year-old Grand Haven man was sentenced in 27th Circuit Court Monday, Jan. 25, to 60 days in jail for a conviction of controlled substance possession less than 25 grams.
Nathan Lynn Volk, of 1230 Taylor Ave., participated in a drug deal that involved 1,000 hits of LSD, said Oceana County Assistant Prosecutor Chad DeRouin.
Volk initially faced a felony of delivery/manufacture of a controlled substance, which was dismissed in a plea agreement.
Co-defendant Steven Michael Nixon, 28, of Grand Rapids, was sentenced Jan. 11 to four months in jail for a conviction of delivery/manufacture of a controlled substance.
“Mr. Volk has shown a lot of remorse,” said his attorney Jason Barrix. “He was lured into this by someone else.”
Co-defendant Nixon previously testified before Judge Robert D. Springstead that he made a drug deal in a car pool parking lot in Shelby Township, Aug. 16, with a person who turned out to be a confidential informant.
DeRouin said Nixon called Volk who obtained 10 sheets of LSD.
“This is definitely the last straw for me,” said Volk to Judge Springstead during his sentencing hearing via Zoom video conferencing due to COVID-19.
“This was a major major drug deal, and you were in it right up to your neck,” said Judge Springstead.
The judge noted that Volk has one prior felony conviction and 13 misdemeanors.
Sentencing guidelines in the case are 0-9 months. Judge Springstead gave Volk credit for three days served in jail and ordered two years probation. His driver’s license will be suspended for six months with no restricted license available for 30 days.
“If you violate your probation at all, you will get a heap of jail time,” Judge Springstead warned.
