Man accidentally shoots himself while cleaning gun.

OTTO TOWNSHIP — A 21-year-old Rothbury man accidentally shot himself while cleaning his gun Thursday, Nov. 26, shortly before 10 p.m. on Forest Glen Drive, said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

The man’s father called 911, and Life EMS personnel and Oceana County sheriff’s deputies arrived on scene. The man was transported to Mercy Health Campus in Muskegon.

He accidentally shot himself in the upper left thigh with a .45-caliber Smith & Wesson pistol. The injury appeared to be non-life-threatening, said Sheriff Mast.

An update on his current medical status was not immediately available.
