Crosses in political display broken.
By Allison Scarbrough, Editor.
HART — Several wooden crosses were pulled from the ground and two crosses were broken in a political display located in the 3000 block of Polk Road across from Hansen Foods, said Hart Police Chief Juan Salazar.
A Trump/Pence sign in that location was sprayed with “some of kind of paint,” but it did not cause permanent damage because it washed off, said Salazar.
The crosses have since been replaced, he said, and the display has been restored to normal.
The malicious destruction of property complaint was received by the police department Monday, Oct. 26, around 7 p.m. The case is under investigation.
Salazar said there have been two other incidents of political signs being stolen in Hart that were reported to his department, including an incident last August in which a Trump sign was stolen but later recovered.
Today, Oct. 28, the chief received a complaint of a Biden/Harris sign and a Gary Peters sign that were stolen from the 200 block of West Main Street.
The chief reminds residents that stealing or damaging political signs is against the law and culprits can be criminally prosecuted. They could face misdemeanor charges of malicious destruction of property, larceny and/or trespassing.
