Motorcyclist injured in crash while trying to avoid hitting possum.

WEARE TOWNSHIP — A 47-year-old Rockford man was transported by Life EMS to Mercy Health Partners Hackley Campus in Muskegon after the motorcycle he was riding crashed on West Monroe Road near US 31 Friday, Sept. 11, around 5 a.m., according to an Oceana County Sheriff’s Office accident report.

“The vehicle was westbound and swerved to miss a possum in the road and overcorrected, and the bike fell on the right side and slid down the lane approximately 20 yards,” the report states. “The driver sustained several broken ribs and a dislocated shoulder.”

The man was operating a 1984 Honda VF700. He was wearing a helmet.
