Deputies busy with dune crashes over the weekend.
GOLDEN TOWNSHIP — Oceana County sheriff’s deputies responded to three separate crashes at the ORV area of the Silver Lake Sand Dunes over the weekend.
The first crash occurred Friday, Aug. 14, shortly after 11 a.m., resulting in injuries for a 22-year-old Eagle, Michigan man, according to the accident report. He was riding a 2009 KTM 250 SX dirt bike.
He was headed west “when he hit a series of bumps in the sand causing him to lose control,” the report states. “His dirt bike laid down, and he flew over the dirt bike into the sand causing injury.”
He was transported by Life EMS to Mercy Health Partners Hackley Campus in Muskegon. The report did not indicate whether or not he was wearing helmet.
The second crash happened Saturday, Aug. 15 shortly after 4 p.m. A 24-year-old Ionia, Michigan man was operating a 2001 Honda CR250 when he lost control of the dirt bike, the accident report states. He was thrown from the bike. He was treated at the scene by Life EMS but was not transported to the hospital, according to the report. He wearing a helmet.
The third crash occurred Saturday shortly before 6 p.m. A 56-year-old Jackson, Michigan woman who was a passenger on a 2019 Polaris RZR 900 was treated at the scene by Life EMS. She was not transported to the hospital, the report states.
A 56-year-old Jackson, Michigan man who was driving the RZR was not injured. Neither were wearing a helmet.
The RZR was southbound on the dunes when it went over a hill too fast, the report states. “The passenger hit her face and head on the frame of the vehicle.”
