Mears man arrested after allegedly stealing ATV.

CRYSTAL TOWNSHIP — A 46-year-old Mears man was arrested by Oceana County sheriff’s deputies on two outstanding warrants for failure to pay child support after allegedly stealing a Polaris Ranger on East Minke Road Friday, July 24, shortly before 7 p.m., according to Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

A farmer saw a suspicious person on his property and called 911. The suspect drove off on the farmer’s Ranger before deputies arrived. The owner followed the suspect in his vehicle, and the suspect then ran off into a field, leaving his shirt and sandals on the ATV.

The Ranger was returned to the owner.

The sheriff’s office is seeking a felony charge of unlawful driving away of automobile. The suspect remains lodged in the Oceana County Jail.
