GRANT TOWNSHIP — The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office is expecting to issue a warrant charging a 52-year-old Whitehall man with assault and battery after he allegedly kicked a 14-year-old boy who was riding his bike on the William Field Memorial Hart-Montague Rail Trail Monday, June 8, shortly after 4:30 p.m., according to Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

The man was northbound on a motorized or electric bicycle and passed the boy and another boy of similar age. While passing, the man allegedly kicked the boy in the hip, causing him to lose control of his bike and crash onto the pavement. The victim suffered scratches and cuts but did not require hospitalization, Mast said.

The above photo was posted on social media, which resulted in the sheriff’s office positively identifying the suspect and pursuing an investigation, Mast said.
