HART — A 55-year-old Hart man faces felony charges in two separate criminal files in 78th District Court.

Donald Paul Adams, of 2129 E. Monroe Rd., is accused of assault by strangulation after allegedly choking a 54-year-old woman in the 100 block of Apple Street, May 31, according to Hart Police Chief Juan Salazar.

“They got into an argument, and he choked her to point that she urinated herself,” Salazar said. She experienced difficulty breathing.

Adams also faces a felony charge of illegal sale/use of a financial transaction device. He was given a debIt card by someone to buy materials for a house remodeling project. Instead of buying the materials needed for the project, Adams bought items for himself valued at $1,400, such as auto parts, at the Ludington Walmart and at businesses in the City of Hart, Chief Salazar said.

Adams was also arrested on a misdemeanor warrant issued by the Michigan State Police, the chief said.

His bail was set at $2,500/cash/surety/10 percent for the assault charge and $1,000/cash/surety/10 percent for the debit card theft charge, according to court records. A preliminary exam in district court is set for June 22 at 3 p.m.
