Man accidentally shoots his hand.
OTTO TOWNSHIP — A 26-year-old Rothbury man accidentally shot his left hand with a .22-caliber rifle Tuesday, May 12, at approximately 5:30 p.m. in the 7500 block of Forest Glen Drive, according to Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.
A sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to the emergency room at Mercy Health Lakeshore Partners Campus in Shelby and interviewed the man who said he dropped his rifle and tried to catch it when the gun discharged. His hand was around the barrel of the gun when it fired.
The man’s fingers were injured and a bone in his index finger was shattered, but no “loss of limb” is expected, Mast said.
Alcohol and drugs were not factors in the accidental shooting, he said.
