HART — A 47-year-old Mears man was recently sentenced to 120 days in jail in 27th Circuit Court for a conviction of attempted malicious destruction of fire/police property.

Todd Allen Smith, of 2132 N. 56th Ave., was found guilty Feb. 10 and was sentenced April 6 via polycom teleconferencing due to social distancing requirements amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“He was kicking at the divider in a Mason County sheriff car,” said Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon. “They were picking him up to transport to Mason County, but it happened here in Oceana.”

Smith received credit for 69 days served and was ordered to pay $198 in fines and costs. One felony count of assaulting/resisting/obstructing police was dismissed.
