PENTWATER — The Village of Pentwater has a chance to win up to $25,000 toward a project in Consumer Energy’s “Put Your Town on the Map” contest.

“Last month, the Consumers Energy Foundation announced we are bringing back our ‘Put Your Town on the Map!’ competition — an effort to strengthen rural communities with $50,000 in grants to energize Michigan’s small towns,” said Brian Wheeler of Consumers Energy.

“Today, we’re excited to announce that a project in Pentwater is one of the 10 finalists.

“The Village of Pentwater is pitching the idea of an ‘R & R Station’ — a location in the village green where residents and visitors can recharge their phones and devices, relax and enjoy other diversions,” said Wheeler. “They will be making their pitch to a panel of judges April 22 at the 2020 Small Town & Rural Development Conference in Thompsonville, Michigan.”

The Consumers Energy Foundation will provide $25,000 to the winning project, with runners-up receiving $15,000 and $10,000.

“We hope this funding — and attention being paid to the finalists — will provide important momentum to make these projects a reality.”

Consumers Energy created the competition to reward ideas and provide critical dollars for projects in Michigan’s small towns. The contest is open to communities with a population of up to 10,000.
