No fans allowed for Pentwater district finals game in midst of coronavirus.
Parents/guardians and essential administrative personnel allowed.
PENTWATER — High school district finals basketball games across the state will be played in nearly empty gyms in the wake of the coronavirus.
The Pentwater Varsity Boys Basketball Team plays in the finals Friday, March 13, in Marion. Instead of a packed gym filled with energized fans, the Falcons will compete with hardly any fans to cheer them on.
“The boys basketball district finals will be played at Marion on Friday, March, 13, 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 virus, the MHSAA has restricted attendance at this event limited to parent/s, guardian/s and other essential administrative personnel only — no siblings or other family members,” according to a statement issued by the school district Thursday, March 12.
“Bands, cheerleaders and gatherings in parking lots or elsewhere on-site will not be allowed. Restrictions on noisemakers, etc., will continue to be upheld for those fans who will attend.
“We thank you for your cooperation and, Go, Falcons, we will be with you in spirit!”
According to MHSAA, there will be live streaming of some games, with a subscription, on MHSAA.tv
There will be no attendance charged at any of the events. Online ticket sales have been stopped, and all tickets that have been purchased are voided and will be fully refunded.
