HART — A 31-year-old Muskegon man was sentenced to six months in jail in 27th Circuit Court Monday, March 9, for a conviction of receiving and concealing stolen property.
Jacob Michael Bectel, of 569 Sunshine Lane, pleaded guilty to the charge, Jan. 13.
Bectel testified in January that he received a stolen quad and tires last September from someone who owed him $500. The transaction occurred at a campground in Leavitt Township, Bectel testified before Judge Robert D. Springstead.
Bectel said that he had reason to believe the property was stolen. He tried to sell the items on Facebook Marketplace, which later led to his arrest. The property was recovered by police.
In exchange for his plea, a felony charge of methamphetamine possession was dismissed.
Sentencing guidelines in the case are 0-9 months, said Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon.
Bectel received credit for 112 days served in jail. Judge Springstead did not order probation, because Bectel is currently on probation in Muskegon County.
