HART TOWNSHIP — A 37-year-old Mears man was arrested by Oceana County sheriff’s deputies after holding his ex-girlfriend captive in her house on West Polk Road for several hours Saturday, Feb. 29, assaulting her, according to Lt. Shane Hasty of the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office.
The woman was taken by a friend to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital following the ordeal. She sustained multiple bruises throughout her body and was bitten on the cheekbone by the suspect, Hasty said.
The suspect is lodged in the Oceana County Jail, and his name will not be released until he has been arraigned. He was arrested on felony charges of felonious assault and assault by strangulation, and a kidnapping charge is pending.
The man waited in the woman’s empty house until she arrived home at approximately 2 a.m. “He held her captive for approximately 12 hours,” the lieutenant said. “They were in a former dating relationship.”
