Police investigate sports poster scam.

HART — Local police are warning business owners to be on the look out for a 69-year-old Spring Lake man who is making his rounds to local businesses claiming that he is selling sports posters, said Det. Rich Parmer with the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office.

Gregory Allen Jackson has visited several area businesses, claiming he is selling posters that feature the schedules for Hart, Shelby and Hesperia football teams with business advertisements. Jackson collects the money, ranging in payments from $25 to $300, and then tells the business owners that the posters will arrive in the mail or he will hand deliver them.

“No one has received them,” Parmer said.

Businesses in the City of Hart have been hit fairly hard, he added.

Investigators recently interviewed Jackson, but he clammed up shortly into the interview, the detective said.

Sports Promotions Inc., may have started out as a legitimate business, but it is now a fraud, he said. It is not affiliated with any of the schools as Jackson may be claiming. The scam has apparently been going on for the last few years.

Business owners are asked to contact either the Hart Police Department (if it’s a City of Hart business) at 231-873-2488 or the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office at 231-873-2121 if they have had dealings with Jackson.

Jackson drives a four-door 1998 Mercedes Benz with a Michigan license plate “5 PRES.”
