HART — A 58-year-old Kalamazoo man pleaded “no contest” in 27th Circuit Court Monday, Jan. 27, to a high-court misdemeanor of fouth-degree criminal sexual conduct — victim 13-16 years old.

William Walter Oisten, of 4740 Nash Ave., will serve eight and a half months in jail in exchange for his plea.

“The family was camping here in Oceana,” said Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon. “Allegedly, while sleeping in a tent, he touched the girl’s breast.” The incident occurred Aug. 24 in Golden Township, said Judge Robert D. Springstead.

Oisten will have to register as a sex offender, Bizon said. He will also be ordered to serve “mandatory probation,” said the judge.

Sentencing guidelines in the case are 0-17 months.

By pleading to the charge, it will save the victim from having to “go through the rigors of trial,” Bizon said, and the victim’s family was agreeable to the sentence.

The maximum sentence for fourth-degree CSC is two years in prison.

A third-offense habitual offender status was dismissed. Oisten was previously convicted of breaking and entering of a vehicle and malicious destruction of police property, which occurred back in his 20s, said Bizon.

Sentencing is set for March 23 at 8:30 a.m.
