HART – A 28-year-old White Cloud man was sentenced to one year in jail in 27th Circuit Court Monday, Jan. 13, for a felony conviction of malicious destruction of property $1,000-$20,000.
Keven Steven Bennett, of 1450 E. James St., admitted, Nov. 4, that he mentally “lost it” when he broke a slider window and slashed car tires due to seeing his ex-wife with her boyfriend last summer.
Bennett told Judge Robert D. Springstead that he and his wife were going through a divorce when the incident occurred Aug. 30 in Newfield Township. “I just stopped by the house, and I was hoping to see the kids,” he said. “I saw her sitting there with the kids and him, and I just kind of lost it.”
Bennett then slashed two tires of her boyfriend’s vehicle with a knife and broke the double-pane slider window of the residence. “When I seen that, I just punched it once and that’s when I took off.”
He told the judge that alcohol led to his bad decisions.
He received credit for 75 days served in jail. He was also ordered to two years probation and must pay $3,700 in restitution
Sentencing guidelines in the case are 10-23 months.
