HART – The Hart Police Department recently had a visit from a young girl “whose passion to support public safety and our US military goes far beyond the regular norm,” states a press release from HPD.
“Sawyer Hendrickson recently met with officers of the Hart Police Department and thanked each one for their service and dedication by giving them a small rock hand-painted with the word ‘hero.’
“Miss Sawyer’s Kids With a Cause has been raising money to assist with the distribution of thousands of Christmas stockings to our soldiers overseas. Our department wanted to give something back to Sawyer for her unselfish efforts said D/Sgt. Kevin Skipski who recently reached out to Sawyer’s mother Heather and arranged the special meeting.
“During Sawyer’s visit, she was given several TEAM gifts and a challenge coin. D/Sgt. SkipskI, who is a US Army veteran, also gave Sawyer several personal military awards and a beret to honor her for her efforts in supporting our troops. A donation to Miss Sawyer’s Kids With a Cause was also given to her on behalf of the men and women of the Hart Police Department.
“Sawyer is definitely one-of-a-kind,” said Skipski. “Her enthusiasm and dedication to our veterans is indescribable. It is comforting to see such a young girl take on such an enormous and meaningful project. Sawyer has also laid several wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider in Washington DC and has maintained a friendship with many of the soldiers who guard the tomb.
“During Sawyer’s visit, Skipski also found out that Sawyer was extremely interested in magic. Being a seasoned magician and illusionist, he performed several magic tricks for Sawyer and also gave her a magic trick to take home and practice. ‘My hope is that Sawyer will one day have the opportunity to perform with me during a show,’ said Skipski. ‘On behalf of the Hart Police Department, I want to thank Sawyer and her mother for their visit and look forward to seeing both of them soon.'”
