HART – A 28-year-old White Cloud man admitted in 27th Circuit Court Monday, Nov. 4, that he mentally “lost it” when he broke a slider window and slashed car tires due to seeing his ex-wife with her boyfriend last August.

Keven Steven Bennett, of 1450 E. James St., White Cloud, pleaded guilty to a felony of malicious destruction of property $1,000-$20,000.

In exchange for his plea, Bennett’s jail time will be capped at one year.

Bennett told Judge Robert D. Springstead that he and his wife were going through a divorce when the incident occurred Aug. 30 in Newfield Township. “I just stopped by the house, and I was hoping to see the kids,” he said. “I saw her sitting there with the kids and (her boyfriend), and I just kind of lost it.”

Bennett then slashed two tires of her boyfriend’s vehicle with a knife and broke the double-pane slider window of the residence. “When I seen that, I just punched it once and that’s when when I took off. I smashed it.”

Sentencing guidelines in the case are 10-23 months.

Sentencing is set for Jan. 13 at 9 a.m.
