Driver charged in crash that killed Pentwater man, injured Ludington man.

MANISTEE – The driver involved in the crash last September in the Village of Bear Lake that claimed the life of a 20-year-old Pentwater man and seriously injured a 23-year-old Ludington man has been criminally charged.

Andre Alvesteffer was pronounced dead at the scene after he was struck by a 2013 Ford Taurus driven by a Charlene Myers, 67, of Bear Lake. Damon Williamson was seriously injured after being struck by the same vehicle. They were both construction workers working in a construction zone on US 31.

“Following a lengthy investigation, the Manistee County Prosecutor has authorized charges against the driver involved in this accident,” said Manistee County Sheriff John O’Hagan in a press release issued Thursday, June 13.

Myers is being charged with two misdemeanors – moving violation causing death and moving violation causing serious impairment of a body function. The first charge has a maximum penalty of one year in jail and/or $2,000 fine. The second charge has a maximum penalty of 93 days in jail and/or $500 fine.

Myers was arraigned in 85th District Court in Manistee and was given a $1,000 personal recognizance bond, O’Hagan said. A pretrial is set for June 26 at 11 a.m.

Both Alvesteffer and Williamson were graduates of Mason County Central High School.
