HART – A 37-year-old Walkerville man was sentenced to serve five months in jail for a conviction of forgery Monday, June 10, in 27th Circuit Court.

Bobby Jo Scheel, of 10283 Dickinson Ave., testified that he forged a check totaling $220 after finding it lying in the road last January in Grant Township. Scheel pleaded guilty to the charge last April.

In exchange for his guilty plea, Scheel’s jail time was capped at five months, said Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon.

Sentencing guidelines in the case are five to 23 months, and a forgery conviction is punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
