Deputy rescues two men from Lake Michigan.
PENTWATER – Deputy Tim Simon of the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division rescued two men from the cold waters of Lake Michigan after their Hobie Cat sailboat flipped over north of the Charles Mears State Park Saturday, May 25.
The men, who are brothers, had been in the 45-degree water for approximately 45 minutes, according to the sheriff’s office.
A 911 call came in at approximately 5:30 p.m. for the stranded sailors. The men said the boat flipped over due to the waves, and they were unable to flip it back over. They were wearing life jackets, said Simon.
“Both individuals were cold and blue when they were pulled from the water, but refused any medical treatment,” he said.
The men, ages 35 and 40 years old, have a cottage in the area.
The Pentwater Fire Department and the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office Reserve Division assisted at the scene.
