WEARE TOWNSHIP –– A 37-year-old Muskegon man was transported by Life EMS to Mercy Health Partners Hackley Campus in Muskegon following a single-vehicle crash on southbound US 31 near Pentwater Saturday, March 16, shortly after 5 p.m., according to an Oceana County Sheriff’s Office accident report.
The man told deputies he suffered seizure while driving, and now his driver’s license will be evaluated by the Secretary of State’s office due to obvious safety concerns, said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.
He was trapped in the 2017 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck with his service dog after hitting a tree and several bushes. Hart Area Fire Department’s Jaws of Life was called to the scene to extricate him from the wreckage. Pentwater Fire Department also responded.
The narrative of the report states that the truck “drifted off the roadway to the right” and then hit a reflector continuing off the road. It then went down into an area of bushes; hit a large tree; and then more bushes.
“The vehicle also was traveling through an embankment and ditch area causing great damage. There were no signs of turning or braking.”
