PENTWATER – The Pentwater Police Department is hosting two presentations Thursday, Feb. 28, targeting business owners and landlords in the Pentwater area about the legalization of recreational marijuana.
“December 6, 2018, the possession of recreational marijuana became legal in Michigan,” states a post on PPD’s Facebook page. “As operators of local bars, restaurants, (rental property) and businesses, we want to meet and discuss how this affects you.
“Our strategy is dependent on working together with you to avoid unnecessary encounters with visitors and patrons so that everyone can enjoy themselves this summer.”
The meetings will begin at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the village hall.
“During the meeting, we’ll present you with information on the Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marijuana Act (MRTMA). We’ll give an overview of the recreational marijuana offenses; consequences of engaging in a prohibited activity; answer any questions that are unique to your operations; and finally share our department’s strategy for enforcement.
“The Pentwater Police Department and your businesses host visitors from all over the world, and the village has become a destination spot for young families with children in particular. Michigan is the only midwestern state that has legalized recreational marijuana. No one can predict the future, but we expect that many people will visit and want to exercise their rights under this new law. These visitors will need our help in understanding the new law and what they are allowed and not allowed to do.”
Those planning to attend need to RSVP by contacting Kate Andersen at 231-869-8301.
