Sex offender sentenced to jail for failing to register.

HART – A convicted sex offender was sentenced to a year in jail in 27th Circuit Court Monday, Feb. 11, for a conviction of of failure to register.
Jeffrey Scott Decheney, 37, of 5299 168th Ave., Hesperia, will serve his time in the Newaygo County Jail, said Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon. Decheney receives no credit for his time served in jail due being on parole at the time of his offense, Bizon said, and his sentence runs consecutively to any parole violation sanctions he receives.
He pleaded guilty to the charge, and a fourth-offense habitual offender notice was dismissed.
According the the Michigan Sex Offender Registry, Decheney was convicted of second-degree criminal sexual conduct – victim under age 13 in 1996 in Newaygo County. In 2000, he was convicted of third-degree CSC – victim age 13-15 in Muskegon County.
Sentencing guidelines in the case are 12-24 months.
